I'M LORA BARNHISER
Originally from Ohio, I studied Art at Bowling Green State University. I have been living in Sunny Phoenix, Arizona for over fifteen years. The change of climate was difficult for me to get use to, but now I feel at home amongst the cacti! In 2018, life was made even more exciting. My husband and I welcomed twin boys into our little house-hold.
My experience teaching Art to students in all age ranges, races and socioeconomic backgrounds has helped shape me into the artist I am today. My experience teaching Art to students of all age ranges, races and socioeconomic backgrounds has helped shape me into the artist I am today. After 18 years in the classroom, I have recently decided to step away from teaching and focus only on creating my Art. I had been stretching myself too thin and am looking forward to concentrating on growing and strengthening my craft. I enjoy painting on earth friendly materials, usually up cycled scraps of wood. My favorite media include watercolor, wood burning (pyrography) and acrylic paint. During the Pandemic, mural creation entered my world and has forever changed the way I look at large empty walls. "I often work best when life throws something at me and says, “Here! What can you make with this?” "This can be a blessing and a curse, as I am always seeing purpose in other people’s trash. "When not teaching, momming or creating art, you can often find me outdoors. "I've never been one to spend much time in the salon, but amongst the birds and trees instead."
